Those who were supposed to guard the gate got hypnotized by the Cinematic Experience. Also it appears they don't like hats and have no grasp of how headgear fits into human history.
Just like nearly all franchises and long standing beloved genre, DUNE has been subverted by Denis Villeneuve to be filtered through the modern lens and its agenda. But Denis Villeneuve didn't get here on his own. Brian Herbert helped because he cares about the paycheck first and not the lore and also his own writing rather then the six original novels.. But those who were supposed to say, hold on, wait a minute this makes no sense stop. Just chose not too raise their voices.
Entirely because they were stuck in the flashbang of the prestige cinematic experience rather then choosing to be stand firm for the lore and characters. And unlike Star Trek or Star Wars DUNE Lore channels didn't even pretend to put up a fight. Its actually pretty pathetic. I would have thought fans of a book would care about faithfulness -- That is why many used to be critical of David Lynch -- Who it should be noted his movie is more faithful than Denis Villeneuve, even with the rain.
Instead they swooned and cooed over Denis Villeneuve: You MUST see Denis Villeneuve's DUNE in iMAX they implored. Beware the YouTube Explainers. Lore isn't their first mission clicks are.
